History

We can go the distance cause we are right on track!

Mitchell Equipment Corporation was founded in 1978. The company designs and manufacturers Rail Gear and attachment systems for vehicles and construction equipment. The company started out in 1978 manufacturing attachments for cranes such as rail threaders, railcar coupler attachments and crane wheel grab attachments.

In 1980‘s the Friction Drive Rail Gear system for rough terrain cranes was developed. The system was also applied to front-end loaders along with 180° swing loader attachments that accepted a variety of attachments such as buckets, forks, grapples, magnet systems, couplers and train air brake system. It was at this point the company started putting together “Rail Gear” systems that consisted of Rail Gear and specialty railroad attachments. The concept of “Rail Gear” systems led is to putting together a system for backhoe loaders that we called the “One Man Gang” for backhoe loaders. In 1985 Mitchell introduced the concept of hydraulic Rail Gear for track inspection trucks for North America at Remsa in Dallas, Texas. Today hydraulic Rail Gear for track inspection trucks is the norm.

During the 1990’s the company applied it’s “Rail Gear” systems to a large variety of trucks, loader, cranes, skidders and backhoes and developed many attachments. In 1999 the company developed a wheel adapter system that can be used with off-the-shelf Accuride® rims so the tires of a track inspection truck tires can sit on the railhead. This patented invention solved the number one Hy-Rail Gear problem; railroad truck ride quality.

Our most recent patent pending product is our Hyda-Guide Rail Gear that has a multi-mode hydraulic suspension system.
